George Wright, one of the best baseball players of the late 1800s for the Boston Red Stockings, also ran Wright & Ditson Sporting Goods - one of the leading golf club dealers of its time in the country. It was here where Francis Ouimet worked while he pursued his amateur golf career, while George Wright is the namesake of the city’s (and one of the country’s) finest municipal golf courses.
